Go on a LARC!  Library Arts and Research Colab

We invite students in any year or discipline to engage in an experiential learning project in the library for credit or just for fun.  The Library Arts and Research Colab (LARC) program offers multiple avenues of creative and research opportunity for students.  We encourage students to work with their dons and instructors to integrate a LARC project into their conference work.  Currently students can select from the following areas of activity, but we are open to developing more:

  • Curated display of books and materials on a research topic of choice.  The library has a large mobile display cart and bulletin board that can be used to showcase an examination of an important topic or issue.  Students can work with librarians to develop their topics and gather materials. For more information, contact Rebecca Regan ([email protected]).

  • Create a unique and professional Sarah Lawrence College Podcast episode based on curriculum work or a topic of choice.  Students can work with the SLC Podcast producer, Tim Kail ([email protected]) to develop, record, edit and publish their episode.  Contact Tim for more information.

  • Create an art installation or display artwork in the library.  For 2025/26, The library’s student art program is managed by Sahara Curry ([email protected]). Students can reach out to Sahara to display their work in the library, or transform an area of the library into an installation project (if feasible).

  • Develop an environmental or science-based project in or around the library.  Projects can be interdisciplinary in nature and integrated into curriculum.  Areas of possible exploration include our red-eared slider turtle habitat, garden or plant activity in or around the library (e.g. the lower level garden and gravel zones), or psychology research.  For these and other science related ideas, please contact Mustafa Sakarya ([email protected] ).

The fifth area of activity is literally anything we haven’t thought of yet!  Come up with your own unique LARC idea.  It could be music or sound related, an art performance, a dance piece, or an interdisciplinary mash-up.  We encourage students to think of the library is a collaboratory space for experimentation.   We are here to assist in bringing your research and creative ideas to life!  For more information, contact library director, Mustafa Sakarya.
